Conservative small business owner and property rights advocate, Dave Shegstad received the Republican endorsement for his run against DFL incumbent Jim Davnie in House District 62A on Wednesday, June 25th. The brief convention was held at the Kenwood Community Center. Shegstad spoke about LRT issues, the need to stop pushing business out of Minnesota and talked about ideas to bring industry back to Minneapolis. One of Dave's suggestions was to try to attract lucrative turbine manufacturing to Minneapolis to create new jobs. Shegstad's first leap into politics was when he ran for Minneapolis' Ward 9 City Council seat in 2005. The bid was unsuccessful, but Dave says it was a learning experience and he's ready to take on Davnie this fall. Running against a DFL endorsed candidate in an urban district is a tough race, but not insurmountable. Dave says he'll do the work, but he needs your help. Visit his campaign website to find out how you can volunteer, get involved and donate to his campaign. |

It's about time for the Senate District 62 Republicans annual picnic. This year, like many past years, the picnic will be at the Minnehaha Park pavillion. The picnic will be on Thursday, June 12 2008 starting at 6:30 PM. Please bring a dish or treat to share. SD 62 will provide charcoal, meat, pop and condiments. A donation of $5 per adult, $3 per child or $20 per family is suggested. If you make a donation, it's refundable through the State Political Contribution Refund Program. This event will pull double-duty. Delegates from HD 62A will have an endorsing convention to participate in as well. Delegates to SD 62 from the 'A side,' elected at precinct caucuses will have a vote to endorse a candidate for State House of Representatives. UPDATE: Endorsing convention postponed. |
